Sunny is mercury. She knows everyone.
Once, at PC Forum, while Sunny and I waited to check in, everybody
stopped to laugh with her and hug her. I jokingly asked the girl
registering us if she knew Sunny. "Of course," she replied. "She's my
cousin."
That night, I watched the charity auction seated next to the king of
auctions, Jay Walker of PriceLine. Because Sunny thought we should
meet. She is the queen of connections.
When daydreaming about showing my new software to Autodesk, I mentioned
it to Sunny. No problem. Of course. Sunny had gone to college with the
CEO. One quick email, titled "connect and conspire," and Carl Bass and
I had a wonderful meeting.
Sunny genuinely loves people as much as she loves the thrill of
connections. Whether she is cooking for them, hosting events at her
house, connecting with them around the world (and no one travels around
the world as much as Sunny), she is a positive force for good. Her
connections have helped foster the TED conference under Chris Anderson,
Jacqueline Novogratz's Acumen Fund (by the way, she introduced those
two, and they are now married—do you see what I mean?), and the World
Science Festival, to name a very few.
She is spontaneous, smart, loyal, and trustworthy. Great qualities for
a friend. Great qualities for connecting people who will become
friends. She is a treasure.
